RBK 6K Helmet
September 17, 2007 Filed in: Helmets
The 6K brings many innovations to the table that set it apart from any other helmet in its price range. First of all, it's light. Really light. In fact, it's the lightest helmet in its class by a long shot. This lack of weight has not compromised its safety though. RBK has utilized EPP foam with comfort cushions for the best protection at the lightest weight. A composite subshell adds structure and stiffness to the helmet. The 6K uses a 2 piece shell that's adjustable with its tool-free FitClip. This is the macro part of the adjustability of the helmet. Simply slide the clip up and adjust the size of the helmet. The shell is extremely well ventilated with vents on the front, side and back of the helmet.
Other details we liked were that the ear protectors are translucent. We don't recommend it - but you can remove these if you prefer. Hung ear loops add to the pro style look. One detail we really liked is that the screws are zinc plated to minimize rust. The 6K is extremely similar to the 8K. The main feature that you lose is the dial fit on the back of the helmet. Other than this, they are pretty much identical. If you want a top level protection helmet - but don't want to pay in terms of protection, ventilation or budget - the 6K is your helmet.
Nike Bauer Supreme 70 Shin Pads
September 08, 2007 Filed in: Protective
The Nike Bauer is back strong with the continuation
of their successful "Supreme" line of Products.
Keeping with the trend they started with their
skates, the shin pad line is numbered based on
performance and features, with One 90 being their
flagship line. The Supreme 70 shin guard is one step
below and offers many of the same features as the One
90 line, including the X-Sorb knee cap and wrap
around calf guard with armor foam for excellent
protection.
The Supreme 70 also has a
segmented, removable liner made from Nike's
Dri-Fit material and features Nike Air around
the knee cap for added comfort. Of all the shin
pads we tried on, Nike's Supreme line was the
most comfortable thanks to the large micro-fibre
anchor strap and wrap around calf closure
system. We found the large calf strap to hug the
calf muscle nice and tight to increase the
performance of the muscles.
The Supreme 70 has most of the features of the One 90 with the exception of memory foam, grip print and more Nike Air found around the knee found in the 90. But the 70 was quite a step up from the Supreme 50 that didn't include Nike Air or the calf armor guard system.
Overall, the Supreme 70 was the the most comfortable and light weight shin pad we tried on and offered the most features and great performance. The best price we could find was $89.00 CDN. The Supreme 70 shin pads are a great mid-high level piece of equipment without shelling out top dollar.
