The XM Radio Prowlers snapped a three game losing
skid Tuesday night, defeating Satan 5-2 at Burnaby 8
Rinks. 3 Players returned from vacation to provide
the team a much needed boost. Mike Taylor, Dan
Marcheen and goalie Mike Howie all returned from fun
in the sun and propelled the team to their first win
of 2008.
Daryl Goeson opened the scoring, breaking a slump on the powerplay, finishing a great passing play from his new linemates Steve Hopson and Dave Parrott. Leading 1-0 starting the second, the Prowlers jumped to a 4-0 lead with goals from Brendan Wilson, Peter Koulouris (although Colin Giles claims he got his stick on it) and Mike Taylor. Taylor's goal was a beauty, set up by Marcheen with a great behind the back pass to Taylor in the slot for his 11th of the year.
Marcheen, having missed the last 2 months vacationing in Thailand, looked like he didn't miss a step and played great in both ends of the ice, earning him the Hype Energy Player of the Week.
After giving up a couple goals to Satan, Koulouris put the nail in the coffin, picking a pass out of the air in the slot to dangle around a sprawling Satan goalie to bury the puck and win.
This was the best XM had looked in a while, all three lines were clicking and the defense and Howie was fabulous again as he stopped 26 of 28 shots.
"Our forecheck was fantastic tonight" said Dave Parrott. "We forced them to make the plays they didn't want, and the result was us getting the puck back in their end. I think we got a little comfortable during that winning streak and we forgot what got us there, tonight we got back to our strengths."
The Prowlers have 2 game this coming week against Evil Beaver and Ice Storm on Monday and Friday,
