A Post Too Short

The XM Radio Prowlers just couldn't bury the puck
went it counted, losing 2-1 in a tight game Saturday
afternoon against Satan. Steve Hopson was the lone
goal scorer as the Prowlers came oh so close, hitting
at least 3 posts over the course of the game.
With somewhat of a lackluster effort after 12 days off, the Prowlers still managed to dominate most of the game with the exception of two miscues and Satan capitalized on both.
Satan scored a goal in both the 1st and 2nd periods, both on partial breakaways. Call-up goalie Jason Verteegen was solid in place of Mike Howie stopping the remaining 16 shots and was hardly tested.
The Prowlers did have their chances, hitting a post early in the 2nd and then ringing one off the Satan's goalies mask. The best chance of the period came off of Pat Dogherty's stick, ringing a wrist shot square off the post from the slot.
XM turned the heat up in the 3rd carrying the play entirely in Satan's zone. Midway through, Pat Dogherty found Hopson in the slot, scoring his career high 6th of the year.
But, perhaps the best chance of the game came when Brendan Wilson found Dan Marcheen alone in the slot. Marcheen one-timed the pass and as it looked he couldn't miss, the goalie caught just enough of the puck to direct it off the post and keep the game 2-1.
"The bounces just didn't go our way" said Pat Dogherty. "We didn't have our legs, but that is no excuse. We let that one slip away."
The Prowlers play one more game before the Christmas break - next Saturday against the Goodfellas.
