entry forms for their 2nd Annual NHL Regular Season
Hockey Pool. Last year's pool was widely accepted and
successful with over 80 entries competing. The team

"Reg Dunlop" Dead at Age 83

Legendary actor, race car enthusiast and
philanthropist Paul Newman passed away Friday after
losing a battle with cancer. Best known for roles in
films like "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and
"The Colour of Money"; Newman achieved cult status in
the hockey world for his role as the over the hill
player/coach Reggie Dunlop in 1977's Slap Shot.

NHL Hockey Pool Open for Entries!

The Vancouver Prowlers have opened their 2008/2009
NHL Hockey Pool for the coming season. The XM Radio
Prowlers hockey pool acts as a fundraiser and is only
$20 to join. Contestants chose 1 player from each
group of six players for a total of sixteen players.

Taylor Agrees to Terms

The XM Radio Prowlers have avoided arbitration and
come to terms with restricted free agent centre Mike
Taylor. As per club policy, terms of the deal were
not released. Taylor had filed for an arbitration
hearing last week and one was scheduled for a hearing
in the coming weeks. That hearing was successfully
avoided with the two parties settling on a reported
2-year deal. Although he had a slow start, Taylor had
a breakout season last year with the Prowlers
garnishing 21 goals and 17 assists in 29 games. Those
38 points put him 2nd in team scoring behind fellow
restricted free agent Pete Koulouris. Read

Giles Makes Deal Official

McLean has Successful Knee Surgery

Prowler defenseman / forward Andrew McLean
successfully underwent arthroscopic knee surgery last
Thursday in a Vancouver hospital. Drew had an MRI
last month that reveled some damaged cartilage and a
torn meniscus. Doctors repaired the damaged areas
without and complications.
The most versatile player on the team, McLean shifted from forward to defense with ease with his smooth skating style. Doctors say Drew will be out 6-8 weeks and will probably miss the first 3-4 games of the season.

Vargas Announces Retirement

Rumours swirled around the team the past week that
forward Frank Vargas was pondering retirement. The
Prowlers confirmed the hearsay on Friday, announcing
that Vargas, 44, has hung up the skates and will not
dawn the black and gold for the coming season.
Hampered by a nagging lower back injury, Vargas only
played 11 games last year and did not dress for the
