The Vancouver Blackhawks held off a surging Prowlers
Hockey Club Tuesday night to grab a 7-4 win at
Burnaby 8 Rinks. Trevor Mclean scored two and added
an assist, but the Blackhawks speed proved to be too
much for XM.
Having never seen their opponent, the Prowlers were shell shocked early in the game. Trouble containing the Blackhawks speedy forwards, the Prowlers gave up 2 goals in the first and 3 in the front half of the second, without mustarding much of an attack of their own.
The line of Mclean, Trevor Hay and Jeff Buder changed that.
With Brendan Wilson in the box for body checking, McLean picked up a clearing attempt from Chad Scott off the boards to walk in and rip a slap shot just inside the far post.
A couple minutes later, Steve Hopson intercepted a Blackhawks pass and snapped a shot off the crossbar and in to cut the lead to 3.
With the Blackhawks seemingly fading after coming out guns blazing, Trevor Hay scored the Prowlers third goal of the night with a wrist shot short side.
McLean then scored his second of the night, poking in a loose puck between the legs of the Blackhawks' goalie to bring XM within 2.
That was as close as the Prowlers got, as the Hawks added an empty netter to seal the deal.
GM Scott dismissed the notion from the media that the Prowlers can't win games without Pete Koulouris.
"We've won without him before, we can do it again. Pete was out with and injury the last half of last season and we managed to be successful. He is only one player. One guy doesn't define a team."
Scott refused to take any more questions about players not on the roster.
"Let's talk about the guys that are here. If you want to talk about other players, phone their teams and ask."
Scott will take his agitated state an the rest of the Prowlers into next Monday's game against the Goodfellas.
