Wilson Knocks Off Selects

The XM Radio Prowlers Hockey Club kept the division's highest scoring team to only 2 goals Friday night, defeating the Sutton Selects 3-2 in overtime.

Brendan Wilson played the hero, scoring with 10 seconds left in overtime and added an assist giving the Prowlers their 15th win of the season. Peter Koulouris and Dave Parrott added goals in regulation after falling behind 1-0 midway through the 2nd.

Goalie Mike Howie was sensational again stopping 21 of 23 shots as it took 2 perfect shots to beat him, both off the crossbar and in. The Selects tied the game late in the 3rd off a goal mouth scramble that ended up on the wrong stick and in the net.

The coaching in overtime proved to be the difference, as XM rotated through the entire line-up during the 5 minutes as the Selects elected to go with only 4 or 5 of their top players. That strategy cost the Selects as the players tired quickly and gave the Prowlers a couple breakaways. The first was Greg Clark, fresh from Brazil, who was stopped and then in the dying seconds Mike Taylor sprung Wilson who waited the goalie and went to the backhand and tucked it in for the win.

"That was a huge win for us." said Wilson "We've played really well the last few games, but ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard. We would of liked to have won in regulation, but 2 points is 2 points and we'll take it."

The Prowlers now gear up for the Ice Hawks next Saturday.
